For the artists in the Artkey Team, ideas and inspiration for keycaps come in droves, and they arrive without prior notice. The studio is where these ideas take shapes and are transformed into your favorite artisan keycaps.

 We are excited to share with you a glimpse of our home, along with a story that you have helped write.

The birthplace

The creation of Artkey started with a pure and burning passion for artisan keycaps, shared by three high school friends. This cramped studio witnessed the kindling of that passion, even though it was barely fit for 3 people and harbored all varieties of shortages

Back then, each of us had our own professional careers and making artisan keycaps was only a hobby after work. We never imagined that artisan keycaps will one day become our full time life.

There were all sorts of shortages, from tools, technology to knowledge and techniques. Since we lacked the know-how in working with resin materials, coupled with next to zero external guidance, we learnt mostly from trial and error.

Mistakes were made, but not regrets.

As we progressed in our keycap endeavors, we were taken by surprise. Our work made an impression on some of you in the hobby of artisan keycaps! It was then that we decided to give artisan keycaps more serious attention, starting with our own workplace.

The decision to renovate our studio stemmed from the nature of this type of work, which was (and still is) centered around creativity, and nothing freshens the mind better than some greens in the workplace. A more sizable studio also meant that we would be able to house more human hands, allowing us to accommodate the rising production demand. Finally, better equipment, tools and utilities would help increase the overall quality.

So, let’s see how the renovations went!

Perhaps one of our most ambitious projects ever, but also a very worthwhile investment.

The Artkey Team was elated by the news of the studio renovation: a drastically improved working place, better equipment, dedicated functional areas, and an overall more pleasing work environment.

This project came at a stressful time for us, however. Due to the pandemic, coupled with the transition between the old and the new workspace, there was a lot to take in and handle at once. Thankfully, we had you guys – our friends and supporters, who have been with us throughout the process for encouragement.

Firstly, this is where we do
the sketching and designing.

Secondly, and possibly Minh’s personal favorite: the casting room! This is where the magic happens.

And lastly, looking out from the studio we see a little garden, where we can take the small breaks between casting sessions and relax our minds as well!

Having a new home for Artkey feels like a change in pace; we feel somewhat revitalized and refreshed, with more energy, creativity and inspiration to bring even more art to our fans in the custom keycap community.

We would not have been here if not for each and every one of our fans. You have helped make the Artkey Team what we are today. We are grateful for this opportunity to pursue our passion and to have so many wonderful friends.
